Manifestation of Jet Quenching in the Total Transverse Energy Distributions in the Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions
نویسنده
چکیده
In the framework of the HIJING model global characteristics of nucleusnucleus collisions are studied for a Large Hadron Collider energy scale. An interesting model prediction is the presence of a central bump over a pseudorapidity plateau of a total transverse energy distribution. The bump is induced by a jet quenching effect in a dense nuclear matter. It is shown that on a wide acceptance calorimeter with a pseudorapidity coverage -5 < η < 5 allow to obtain experimental confirmation of such an effect. The investigation has been performed at the Laboratory of High Energies, JINR.

Jet Quenching
High-pt particles produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions constitute a powerful tool to study the medium properties. The energy loss resulting from the propagation of these particles in the produced medium translates into a suppression of the high-pt yields. These effects are usually associated to medium-induced gluon radiation which, in turn, predicts a broadening of the jet-like signals. Both ...

We present a Monte-Carlo generator for a variety of Glauber-like models (the wounded-nucleon model, binary collisions model, mixed model, model with hot spots). These models describe the early stages of relativistic heavy-ion collisions, in particular the spatial distribution of the transverse energy deposition which ultimately leads to production of particles from the interaction region. The o...

متن کاملJets as a Probe of Dense Matter at RHIC
Jet quenching in the matter created in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions provides a tomographic tool to probe the medium properties. Recent experimental results on jet production at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) are reviewed. Jet properties in p+p and d+Au collisions have been measured, establishing the baseline for studying jet modification in heavy-ion collisions. Current pr...
